Flip side of No Game - Indian Telecom

Revenues reported for Jan'09 to Mar'09 Qr by various players gives different findings .We have been talking leadership basis on nos for long time.Of cource,Market evalutions done taking sub base as the top factor to determineprice in last year M&A.But, bottomlines are not in proportion to sub base.More sub base does not mean more revenues.Following figures are very intresting

With 3.9cr sub base, Idea rev per sub stands approx rs.61 while Rcom with 7.3 subbase stands with just rs.41 per sub rev while market leader Bharati per sub rev for said period at about rs.80. While future finds more competive with new entrants,Its critical to player to sustain the current revenues and scale up further.

Indian Telecom - Brick and Mortar Business


Amazingly evolved Indian Telecom business from single State run BSNL to multiple Private operators in last 10 years. from 3 crore customers to 40 crore customers still adding 1 million per Month for last 1 year. from pure analog Voice to converged NGN networks capable of handling intellegent voice,vedio,data in TBs.from years of waiting time for simple telephone connection to on the spot off the shelp service activation.Now,Its part of daily life of 40 crore Indians.Its a true success story.But,with increased competition,advanced inexpesive technologies,new operators in queue,There is a
tremendous margin pressures for service providers in india to sustain the business.

Its an imperative to generate alternate revenue streams. future may find cut throat competition with narrow margins.It might lead to another round of consolidation in indian telecom business,At this context,Operators should
bring in innovation in products and services with mass customisation.not only interms of new products and services but also anticipating customers needs employing sophisticated approaches to customer services and being good at coming up with creative ideas is most importent for business continuity.
We should now move on from plain old telecom service provider to converged
service provider with system integration capabilities in web,exiting enterprise and entertainment software applications and devices.It may me speaking web over
hstp,on demad ERP access from PDA or Integrating payment devices,NFC etc.
I dont see much act from service providers on Innovation and New Product Development front while they are busy with subscriber additions.But,I strongly feel that it is a time to move from Brick and Mortar telecom business to Hybrid business models with increasing internet penetration levels. This will help service providers to cut down the costs in their expensive distribution value chain significantly. One such Initiative I could see with indian tsp Tata Tele which has recently launched their online mobile store. The entire process of choosing handset,service plan,submittion of application to delivery from nearest store made online. This is an extreamly brilliant work out towards hybrid business model.
While doing so,It is also most important and challege to educate and drive conventional business friendly indian consumers to adopt innovative hybrid business models to avail products and services of their choice.

An Indian Rail Journey

India being a home for software and filling the soft brains to millions of devices being produced world wide.today, I happened to feel that our indian rail has a long way to travel and seem to be leveraging the strengths.
Thx to Lalu.could see some improvement in terms of online tkt booking,booking of wait listed tickets online ,mobile charge pointn train etc made available.But, there are many citigen centric services are ignored. For instance, you would not know the flat form no online or tru railway's centralised contact center.hence, you need to go to stn to find out the flat form no where train arrives.This is realy disgusting.Yesterday , I was to drop my aunt to Secundrabad railway stn which has 12 flat forms. since, I dont know the flat form no, I had to go to main gate (flat form no:1) with all the heavy weight baggage . Then,I was told that particular train arrives at flatform no : 10 . Then,It was a great struggle for us to reach FFNo:10 from FFNo:1 with all the baggage.If I had known the FFNo in advance tru online/call center,I would have directly taken the otherside of stn entrance and saved from the struggle.

The other annoying service is the process of booking lunch/dinner.cos,we dont know as it happens or not till the time we get the food on hand. I wonder why railways do not online these simple services to save precious time of citigens and reduce the congestion of people googling for info inside station ?

Its my dream to travel in india on luxurious bullet trains with my 3g ipod connected to on board wifi network sipping a hot coffee.

Will that happen ?? Where more than 10k crore profit that indian railways making burning ?
50% tikets always sold in tatkal and still 40% citigens do get their tkts cancelled on wait list.
Why dont Manmohan gov think of establishing premium track on private BOT model ?There
are many corporates wish to do !!
